New numbers from Statistics Canada shows the gap between the number of sick days taken by government workers compared to those outside government has grown dramatically in the last 15 years.
1999
Government Workers: 11.0 days
Non-Government: 7.1 days
Difference = 3.9
2014
Government Workers: 14.1 days
Non-Government: 8.4 days
Difference = 5.7
The gap has increased by 46%.

The Nova Scotia government predicts that sick time taken by government workers costs taxpayers about $26 million each year.
